Scholarship opportunities

Southwest University of Visual Arts administers a number of scholarships for both entering and continuing students. All Southwest University of Visual Arts Scholarships are awarded on a first-come-first served basis to bachelor’s degree degree seeking students. All applicants must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Scholarships will be awarded in the form of a tuition credit, not cash, and are applied each semester towards a student’s tuition and fees. Scholarships may not create a credit disbursed in cash to student. Students must maintain individual scholarship requirements to continue receiving disbursements. Please refer to individual requirements below.

Fall 2020 SUVA President's Scholarship

A $5,000 annual scholarship will be awarded to all new and continuing students, no application required! The President's Scholarship may be renewed annually for a total award of $20,000 for entering students. This award is only applicable to students enrolled full time at the start of the Fall 2020 term.

Scholarship Requirements

  • The $5,000 annual award will be applied to the two terms of the academic year, with students receiving $2,500 per semester.
  • Scholarships will be applied to tuition and no money will be paid directly to students.
  • Students must maintain a GPA of 3.5. The annual award will be reduced to $2,500 if a student's cumulative GPA drops to 3.0 to 3.49.
  • The scholarship is void if a student withdraws, drops below full-time enrollment, or if the required cumulative GPA is not achieved.

Board of trustees scholarship

The Board of Trustees Scholarship is awarded to incoming students who have demonstrated exemplary academic achievement. Scholarships will be awarded in the form of a tuition credit, not cash, and are applied each semester towards a student’s tuition and fees. Students awarded this scholarship will receive up to $1,000, $1,500 or $2,000, per semester, pending they meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Scholarships cannot exceed tuition charges.
  • SUVA Scholarships are a tuition credit and are limited to the amount of tuition the student owes.
  • Scholarships cannot create a credit disbursed to the student or on the student’s behalf.

Students must meet ONE of the following requirements:

  • ACT Score of 21 or above
  • SAT Score of 1060 or above (2 part SAT Scoring system)
  • SAT Score of 1590 or above (3 part SAT Scoring system)
  • Completion of an International Baccalaureate diploma program

To remain eligible for the Board of Trustees Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria.

  • Completion of a minimum of 24 credits per 2 semesters of attendance
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above on a 4.0 scale

Awards will be distributed based on cumulative GPA earned.

Transfer Student Scholarship

Annual scholarships may be awarded to a limited number of transfer students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, outstanding leadership potential, involvement with community service, and documentation of extracurricular activities, honors and/or awards. Students awarded this scholarship may receive $1,000, $1,500 or $2,000 per semester pending they meet both of the following minimum requirements:

  • 30 credit hours of college level coursework.
  • A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.

To remain eligible for the Transfer Student Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of a minimum of 12 credits per semester of attendance.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above on a 4.0 scale.

Awards will be distributed based on cumulative GPA earned.

Community Scholarship

Southwest University of Visual Arts Community scholarship benefits both the student and the local community. Artists and designers are encouraged to pursue higher education in their own community and also give back through pro-bono work, volunteering or community service projects. Scholarships are awarded to a limited number of students each semester; 5 per program per campus. Students awarded this scholarship may receive up to $1,500 per semester.

In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students must meet all of the following minimum requirements:

  • Students must be a full time student with 12 credit hours or more.
  • Students must be an Arizona resident for at least 2 years.
  • Student must commit to participate in one community or pro-bono project through the college or 10 hours of community service each semester.
Creative Vision Scholarship

This Creative Vision Scholarship program is an effort to recognize and encourage students who demonstrate they are academically competitive, exhibit special talents or characteristics, the ability to overcome obstacles, and demonstrate financial need.

This Creative Vision Scholarship program gives priority to those who come from middle income families and are often ineligible for federal and state grants. Award amounts vary between $250-$1,500 per semester.

To remain eligible for the Creative Vision Scholarship, students must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Completion of 30 credit hours per year.
  • Provide a written statement explaining how you demonstrate the requirements of the Creative Vision Scholarship Program.
