Michael Ellis is a Harvey-nominated illustrator, fine artist and educator. His illustration clientele includes The Weekly Alibi, University Hospital, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, Duhigg, Cronin, Spring & Berlin P.A. Law Firm, Strange Horizons Magazine and Action Lab Comics.
He has exhibited his art regionally at the Jean Cocteau Theater in Santa Fe, NM; Metallo Gallery in Madrid, NM and the Loma Colorado Library in Rio Rancho, NM. Select group and solo Albuquerque exhibitions include Orpheum Community Arts Hub, the Downtown Contemporary Gallery, Remarque Gallery, fourteenfifteen gallery and the William Platz Gallery.
Michael began his teaching career in 2002 teaching English as a Foreign Language in Marrakech, Morocco. Other highlights from Michael’s teaching career include workshops in comics making and theory at New Grounds/ Remarque Print workshop, for the Bernalillo County Public Library System, Manzano Day School, and the Bubonicon Science Fiction and Fantasy Annual Convention. Before joining the SUVA faculty in 2017 to teach illustration studio and concept classes, he taught high school and middle school English and theatre in Albuquerque, NM.
Michael has a Bachelor of the Arts cum laude in Creative Writing from the University of New Mexico. He is an MFA candidate at the Southwest University of Visual Arts. His website can be found at www.michaelellisart.com
