TRANSCRIPTS

Applicants must arrange for their high school and/or college transcripts to be translated into English.

All applicants are required to submit TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) scores.

High school graduates must submit transcripts with cumulative grade point average (GPA) or proof of diploma indicating date of high school graduation. General Education Development (GED) recipients must submit GED certification with corresponding scores. Based on additional education or life experience, high school transcripts or GED scores may not be an accurate indication of basic ability. Therefore, applicants with a high school GPA less than 2.5 or GED recipients with scores indicating areas of weakness may be eligible for “limited study” admission (see “limited study” for additional information).

TOEFL, ACT or SAT Test Scores

International applicants may submit TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) scores in place of ACT/SAT scores.

Alternately, prospective students may fulfill this requirement by completing a minimum overall band of 6.0 with no band below 5.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or a minimum Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 53.

All applicants are required to submit TOEFL, ACT or SAT test scores unless the applicant has earned a Bachelor’s or graduate degree. Applicants who have not previously taken one of these standardized tests may take the ACT residual test offered at Southwest University of Visual Arts. Applicants who elect to take the ACT Residual Test offered at Southwest University of Visual Arts are required to submit a $32.00 test fee on or before the date of the exam.

FINANCIAL AID

Southwest University of Visual Arts offers a comprehensive, need-based aid program for students who demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Student need-based financial aid is determined in a no-obligation evaluation appointment with an Education Finance Officer. There is no application deadline. Southwest University of Visual Arts complies with all Federal regulations in the distribution of financial aid awards (see “The Guide to Federal Student Aid,” U.S. Department of Education).

If the student is meeting satisfactory progress standards, Financial Aid is disbursed by the appropriate office in the Student Services Department. Financial Aid funds are disbursed in a reasonable time frame after funds are received by the College. Federal Financial Aid is available to eligible students. Included are Federal Family Education Loan Program, Federal Pell Grants, FSEOG, LEAP (AZ only), PFAP (AZ only) and FCWS.

The Financial Net Price Calculator is a tool that can help you see how education loans and college financial aid work. Do you qualify? Keep in mind: this calculator only provides estimates. SUVA’s financial aid administrator provides the "final word" on financial aid eligibility after analyzing each family's financial situation. Note: This is a federal calculation to provide you with an early estimate of your eligibility for federal student aid.

TRANSFER STUDENTS WITH PREVIOUS EDUCATION

Transfer credits will be given for courses successfully completed at other post secondary institutions that are equal or similar to Southwest University of Visual Arts accreditation and course offering. The minimum acceptable grade for any course is C (2.0). Applicable credits earned at other accredited institutions may be accepted as transfer credits for a period of up to 10 years. Once this time frame has lapsed, credit is contingent upon the student demonstrating the knowledge or skills, as determined by the Academic Chair, to successfully complete the course.

Students seeking transfer credits from other post secondary institutions must submit transcripts of grades and course descriptions from catalog prior to enrollment in the course or during the drop/add period. Students requesting transfer credit for studio courses must submit examples of work to demonstrate proficiency in the subject. Students may receive credit for previous education or experience in computer courses by completing a practical exam. Transfer credits are determined on an individual basis. Transfer credits from other accredited post secondary institutions may not exceed 75% in any program.

Southwest University of Visual Arts does not charge a fee to transfer credits from other accredited institutions or between Southwest University of Visual Arts' degree programs. If student misses the first term deadline, SUVA has the option to impose a $25 per credit fee.

LIMITED STUDY

Degree candidates who submit strong applications but do not meet the minimum academic requirements may be admitted as limited study students. Limited study students are required to attend remedial classes. After successful completion of remedial classes, submission of new ACT/SAT scores and an evaluation period equal to one term of attendance, providing all documentation is on file, the student may be changed from limited to admitted status.

If at the end of the evaluation period the student is not making satisfactory progress or test scores do not demonstrate improvement, the college reserves the right to extend the student’s limited status or terminate the student’s enrollment.

Remedial classes cover reading comprehension strategies, math and/or basic English skills. If a limited study student does not attend or pass the required remedial classes, the student may be required to repeat coursework or the college may choose to terminate the student’s enrollment. Remedial courses may not be applied towards general education requirements.

DEGREE COMPLETION
